Press Release
Dear contributors,
We are happy to announce that the journal Biotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment has started a beneficial collaboration with Versita, one of the largest publishers in Central Europe. Versita is a partner of CrossRef and provides us with access to the world’s leading electronic publishing technology MetaPress.
As part of the continuous improvement of Biotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, one side of our new collaboration is the introduction of Digital Objective Identifier (DOI) program. DOI numbers will be assigned to all accepted articles and as a result, we now provide additional services. Our authors will benefit from these improvements as their papers can be published on-line first/ahead of print. Furthermore, authors will be given the opportunity to use our on-line open service at a reasonable price.
Electronic publishing of the journal’s issues will be carried out by our new partners, Versita and MetaPress, and digital articles will be present at their web sites. Open access will be given to papers after request from the authors. We will continue to upload at our web page the abstracts to each article comprising the regular issues. Our site will also include papers that reflect scientific meetings and specific projects. These papers will be published in supplementary issues, available with free access. Selected articles of interest, from the supplementary issues, can also be published in the regular issues after a peer review.

Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Association has granted Imatinib 1st prize for prescription drugs in 2008. This review addresses the role of imatinib in anticancer therapy. Imatinib is the first member of a new class of agents that act by inhibiting particular tyrosine kinase enzymes, instead of non-specifically inhibiting rapidly dividing cells. It is currently marketed by Novartis as Gleevec (USA) or Glivec (Europe/Australia) as its mesylate salt.
